Spelling rules for «-ing» forms:

  • most verbs take -ing
    cooking, going
  • verbs ending in -e → -e + -ing
    making, smiling
  • verbs ending in -y → no changes
    playing, crying
  • mind doubled letters: running, putting, swimming, etc.

Usage

  • To talk about actions happening now.

❖ The visitors are having a meal now.
