Remember

  • Add -ed only in «+»
  • Add -d to verbs ending in -e (live — lived, use — used)
  • consonant + y → y + ied (carry — carried, copy — copied, BUT play — played, stay — stayed.)
  • Mind double letters: plan — planned, stop — stopped

Usage

  • To talk about finished actions in the past

❖ The children helped their mum.
❖ I washed the dishes.
❖ We did not play games.
❖ Why did you stop here?

  • Use Past Simple with the markers:

yesterday (Did you add more salt yesterday?)

last week, last month, last year, etc. (It rained last week.)

❖ 2 days ago, one week ago, etc. (My neighbours talked about these dogs 3 days ago.)

in 2015, in 1867 (He joined the group in 1999.)

Common mistakes

Lora didn’t worked last week.

Was she go the bookshop yesterday?

✔️ Lora didn’t work last week.
